The Centre for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies, founded in 2003, is devoted into the research of Judaic & inter-religious studies and engaged in the nurturing of postgraduates.

With years of endeavor, the Centre has made grandeur achievement in academia. The two latest remarkable achievements it has accomplished (in 2005) are:

l         Being ranked as one of the key research institutes in religious studies amongst the Humanities and Social Sciences at Chinese Universities.

l         Being a part of the 985 Program of Chinese Education Ministry.

Notable researchers are:

l         Professor Fu Youde, expert in Judaism & comparative religious;

l         Professor Niu Jianke, expert in Japanese Buddhism.

l         Professor Ehrlich, expert in Judaism;

l         Professor Liu Xinli, expert in Christianity;

l         Professor Xie Wenyu, expert in Christianity;

l         Professor Chen Jian, expert in Buddhism;

One more achievement is the building of the largest Judaica library which also contains books on religion, philosophy and sociology. The library collects books from many sources: buying books with the fund supplied by 985 Programme, receiving generous donations from Marvin Tokeyar and Mel Stewart who are retired professors, Agur Fund in Hong Kong, Institute of Sino-Christian Studies Centre in Hong Kong, Hebrew College in Boston, Brandeis University, Texas University, Lutheran Seminary in Norwegian. The library has more than 4,000 collections of books, more than 120 kinds of journals among which rare in China are: the complete works of Luther (German version), Encyclopedia Judaica (English version), Talmud, Bible Dictionary and some more.

In the nurturing of postgraduates, in 2005 it was granted the right to offer Ph.D degrees in religious studies. Before this time, M.A degrees were in religious studies (M.A.R) and Ph.D degrees in philosophy. Altogether the Centre has 65 postgraduates since 2001.

Furthermore, the Centre established close relationship with institutes abroad such as Hebrew University in Israel, Bar-Ilan University in Israel, Institute of Sino-Christian Studies in Hong Kong and Centre for Judaic Studies of Boston University in the USA, all of which offer opportunities for postgraduates of the Centre to study as exchange students or research as visiting students.
