Sociology
The University of Shandong Department of
Sociology is founded in 1983 as one of the first sociology
departments in Chinese universities after the sociology
program was recovered in China.Since being established, the
course offerings and teacher accreditation have developed
significantly. The department has an enthusiastic team of
faculty with a favorable structure of knowledge, age and
degree.It has formed a creative and developed study team. As
the discipline of sociology, it has two department:
sociology and social work. The department currently has a teaching staff of twenty-two, with as
many as thirteen qualified professors and associate
professors. Currently, the Department has 7 professors, 6
associate professors and 9 lectures, among whom 8 have got
Ph.D. and 4 are studying for the Ph.D.
Besides, some famous scholars and
experts at home and abroad are invited to be part-time
professors here. Prof.
Li Peilin, the
famous sociologist; director of Institute of Sociology Chinese
Academy of Social Science
has participated in the system as professor of key post and
part-time Ph.D.
supervisor.
Current
available majors include:
Social
Development and Modernization Studies.
As the leaders of this major, Prof. Lin Ju-ren, Prof. Wang
Zhongwu and Prof. Li Shanfeng are studying the fundamental
theories and research methods in the Sociology of Development.
They have made great progress in this field by exporing the
contemporary problem of social development and modernization
in China. They also have produced a significant amount of
published materials and academic literatures.
Community and Urban Studies. Prof.
Gao Jianguo and Prof. Li Qing are the principals of this
major. This major include: Community and Urban Studies at home
and abroad; Development of Community Urbanization and the
Organizational Structure of the Urban Community. In the
perspectives of macro-micro, they are exploring the community
and social relationship in the urban regions. They have a
profound influence on the academy of this field with a special
approach character.
Studies of Social Psychology.
Leading by Prof. Ma Guanghai and Associate
Prof.Cheng Shengli, the center have attained great progress by
analyzing the important social psychology phenomenon in the
process of social development and developing the theory and
methods of Social Psychology.
Social Work and Social Administration
Studies. The SWSAS currently possesses four research staffs. These include: Prof.
Han Feng; Associate Prof. Ge Zhongming; Associate Prof. Ni
Anru; Associate Prof. Yang Shanmin. They generally undertake
research within the following fields: theory and prcatice of
social work. Since being founded, it has gained a good
reputation as a key theoretical
support
base for the government.
Gender
Studies. As the leaders of
this major, Prof. Lin Ju-ren and Prof. Zhuang Ping are
studying the theories of gender, and analyzing the gender in
social stratification. With the conception of gender, they do
some researches in the status about society and family.They
have published
some significant articles appearing in the national academic
periodicals in the field of sexual
stratification.

Social security
The
subject of social security acquired the power to give to
master degree in 2003, and recruited the first batch of
graduate students in 2004. Now the subject has already
developed into an academic team with strong research power,
reasonable research steps brigade, explicit research
direction, and outstanding outcomes.
On
the basis of the basic theoretical research of
social welfare and social security, it pays much
attention to social realistic problems with great
significance, then studies and explores
the social welfare perspective and the social security system
design suited to China's national conditions.
The
subject now has two professors, four associate professors,
with three doctors, three reading Dr., four masters. At
present, the subject has three directions:
1. Social welfare
theory and system. Professor Gao Jianguo is the one who leads
the team, with associate professor Cheng Shengli and Ge
Zhongming as the academic backbone. They focus on welfare
thoughts and methodology of theoretical research, the
historical context of welfare thoughts and theories, welfare
trends and theories schools at home and abroad, and the social
welfare system model, system transformation and system design.
They have obtained significant outcomes, with six published
monographs, five books of translation and more than 60
articles in the past five years.
2. Old-age social security. With associate
professor
Ni Anru and Ren Lixin as main force, directed by modern social
security theory, facing social reality of economic
globalization and the aging of the population, it focuses on
significant theoretical and practical issues of old-age social
security under the condition of socialist
market economy, and explores the elderly financial security,
medical support, basic theory and method of elderly social
services with the background of economic globalization. They
have done numbers of deep researches and obtained significant
outcomes.
3. Social security of the disabled. It focuses on basic
theoretical research on protection of the disabled, values and
ideals, systems and practices, tracking the development,
trends and new progress of protection of the disabled at home
and abroad; and mentality, education, employment, families,
rehabilitation and other services for people with disabilities
and the need for social policy design.
